Joanna Nuisance

My friends made me listen to Joanna Newsom for the first time. I made this as revenge.

Download the ringtone here. Use it as an alarm, or bear repellent or play it for 24 hours straight, until your brain and body functions start to slide, your train of thought slows down and your will is broken.

What I Learned: Paul Miller, Photographer

Paul Miller is a talented photographer in Indianapolis and a good friend. We first worked together in 2006, when he helped me shoot promo pics for an event marketing company I helped start. As I’ve started doing more production work, we’ve collaborated on Continue Reading →

My summer of music, technology and theatre

I’ve neglected my blog over the last few months. But that’s not to say I haven’t done or made anything cool. I’ve been a very busy bee. Continue Reading →

Story Time: Pentagram Turns 40

The Forty Story from Pentagram on Vimeo.

How do you measure, measure a year? Or 40? Or even 25?

Logo/identity whizzards, Pentagram, put together a really compelling narrative for their 40th anniversary. What made it so satisfying is that they managed to capture the essence of their brand, company and business and convey it in a very human way.

While the cutting, sewing and finishing only took 4 hours, I spend probably another two hours wondering Continue Reading →

What I Learned: Catching Up with CODO

CODO is a identity firm in indianapolis built by Isaac Arthur and Cody Fague, two talented, affable chaps who are passionate about design, beer and creating unique identities (not necessarily in that order). They are the brains and heart behind some of my (and likely your) favorite identities in Indy, The Libertine, Tomlinson Tap Room and Pogue’s Run.

I sat down with them (an embarrassingly long time ago) to learn more about what they do and what exactly “hands-on branding” entails.

Here’s what I learned from CODO:

1. The client knows best. Carry them along Continue Reading →

I’m stoked that I’ve got this working! Excuse the extremely sloppy tupper-drumming!

Make An Electronic Drumkit for GarageBand

The Goal:

An electronic drumkit that will allow me to play virtual drums in software like Ableton, GarageBand, Fl Studo, by wailing on real things.

The Sound of The Hunger Games

Watch this great, short piece about the sound of “The Hunger Games.”

How I Watch Movies:

I’ve always been the guy that stays behind and watches the credits at the movies. I’m usually looking for two things, Continue Reading →
